Kansas City Royals Abstract Bauhaus-Inspired Squares Poster
Sports art doesn’t need to be in-your-face. It can be elegant, stylish, even thought-provoking. These large-scale modern-style prints can certainly fit in a garage or man cave, but they’re most at home in a dining or living room adorned by thoughtful interior design. With a focus on color and simplicity of design, these Bauhaus-era inspired posters will bring a beautiful flourish to your interior space, and show off your design-forward aesthetics.
Established in 1969, the Kansas City Royals experienced early success in the history of their franchise unique to expansion teams historically in MLB. After four seasons of sub-.500 play from 1969-1972, the Royals top prospect George Brett arrived on the scene in 1973, and would help lead the team to one of their two most successful stretches of success. Brett was a generational superstar, and would lead the team in WAR for six of his seasons in Kansas City, and to this day remains the franchise WAR leader. From 1976-1985 the Royals would reach the postseason seven times, make two World Series and win one (1985). A 21-year old Bret Saberhagen, along with Brett, would be the muscle of the roster. Keven Appier, David Cone, Johnny Damon, and Zach Greinke would come and go over the course of the next 25 years, but the Royals would stay locked out of the playoffs, unbelieveably. In 2013, however, it became clear that something was happening. Salvador Perez, Eric Hosmer, Mik Moustakas, Alex Gordon & Lorenzo Cain all began graduating to the Big League club from the farm, a tremendous haul from the Royals most recent rebuild. These guys were good, sure, but more importantly they cared about winning and playing as a team. In what to this day is one of the more impressive zags from what the rest of the league was doing, that team eschewed Three True Outcomes baseball, instead making lots of contact, stealing bases, and playing like a team straight out the 1940s. In 2014 they made it all the way to the World Series, losing to San Francisco in what many thought was an outlier season. But then the Royals did it again next year, and took home the trophy for their second World Series title in franchise history. The Royals have since fallen on hard times, rebuilding in a sport where that cycle simply has to exist. But the Kansas City fans will be back, and the Royals will surely be heard from again.
