Atlanta Hawks Abstract Bauhaus-Inspired Squares Poster

from $35.00

Sports art doesn’t need to be in-your-face. It can be elegant, stylish, even thought-provoking. These large-scale modern-style prints can certainly fit in a garage or man cave, but they’re most at home in a dining or living room adorned by thoughtful interior design. With a focus on color and simplicity of design, these Bauhaus-era inspired posters will bring a beautiful flourish to your interior space, and show off your design-forward aesthetics.

Playing their first season in 1949-50, the Atlanta Hawks are one of the oldest franchises in the NBA. The early years of the team were largely dominated by Bob Pettit, a Hawk lifer who would average 26.4 points and 16.2 rebounds in his time with the team. During Pettit’s time with the team, they would reach the NBA Finals four times, winning the title once, in 1957-58. Lenny Wilkins, John Drew & Dan Roundfield would prove to be admiral team leaders post-Pettit, but the Hawks didn’t truly find a transcendent superstar again until Dominique Wilkins would be drafted in 1982-83. Nicknamed The Human Highlight Reel, ‘Nique was a sensation in the league. He had a level of athleticism that was not the norm in the league, and really set into motion the archetype of player that would become so coveted moving into the future. Despite his greatness, the Dominique Wilkins Hawks would routinely run into the Celtics, 76ers and eventually Pistons of the 1980’s, and were relegated to that class of Good but not Great teams of the era. In the 1990’s Dikembe Mutombo and Mookie Blaylock would lead the team to the playoffs seven straight years from 1992-1999, though they too were capped in the Conference Semifinals. In the late aughts, Paul Millsap, Al Horford & others would combine for another consistently great stretch for the Hawks. That team would eventually reach the Conference Finals in 2014-15, but as has been the case historically with the Hawks, they would be stonewalled prior to the NBA Finals. The Trey Young era is now upon Atlanta basketball, and it has been fine but not yet high-level. Hawks fans everywhere are collectively hoping that the team is capable of taking another step or two into elite territory.
