Washington Nationals Abstract Bauhaus-Inspired Squares Poster
Sports art doesn’t need to be in-your-face. It can be elegant, stylish, even thought-provoking. These large-scale modern-style prints can certainly fit in a garage or man cave, but they’re most at home in a dining or living room adorned by thoughtful interior design. With a focus on color and simplicity of design, these Bauhaus-era inspired posters will bring a beautiful flourish to your interior space, and show off your design-forward aesthetics.
Beginning play as the Montreal Expos in 1969, the Nationals arrived in Washington DC in 2005 as one of the worst teams in baseball. Despite claiming a couple of decent players in Alfonso Soriano and Ryan Zimmerman, the cupboard was bare, and the front office set off to improve the farm system the only way that a MLB team knows how — a full blown rebuild (don’t say tank). The Nats would pick absolute superstars in the first round of the draft from 2009-2012, grabbing Stephen Strasburg, Bryce Harper and Anthony Rendon in a trio of picks that would ultimately make for the backbone of their future competitive window. Starting in 2012 the team turned their fortunes around, winning 98 games and the NL East. While the Nationals fell in the NLDS to the Cardinals, it was clear that they were on the upswing. After a setback the following season, 2014 saw them lose again in the NLCS, and the doubts began to creep in about whether this team had the meddle to compete for World Series championships. The franchise would add Max Scherzer to the mix, Harper would win an MVP in 2015, and they would add manager Dusty Baker into the fold, but it seemed to be not enough, losing two more NLDS matchups in 2016 & 2017. Oft-injured Strasburg would look to be done as a high-level elite Ace, Bryce Harper would leave via Free Agency, and heading into the 2019 season the Nationals looked to be done with the window they opened, with no titles to show for it. But this team had a different look to it… Juan Soto was called up, Trea Turner came into his own. Strasburg returned from injury and looked really good… And the Nationals went and won the whole World Series, a year after it looked like maybe it was over. That 2019 will forever be a legend in DC sports, and while the team has fallen on hard times since, it’s only a matter of time until the Nats are able to pop back up in the nation’s capital.
