Toronto Raptors "Modern Iconography" Statistical Poster
Sports art doesn’t need to be in-your-face. It can be elegant, stylish, even thought-provoking. These large-scale modern-style prints can certainly fit in a garage or man cave, but they’re most at home in a dining or living room adorned by thoughtful interior design. Created using visual iconography and showcasing historical and statistical data (updated for the 2024 season), these posters tell an elaborate story of the legacy of the Raptors in a design-forward manner and will undoubtedly enhance any space you choose to display it in.
The Toronto Raptors entered the league as an expansion team in the 1995-96 season. It didn’t take them too long to get up to speed, drafting UNC guard Vince Carter in the 1998-99 NBA Draft. Carter would put Toronto on the map, winning the All-Star Weekend Dunk Contest and providing highlight reels every single night from Canada. The Chris Bosh era would come shortly after, in the early 2000’s, and Bosh’s teams would be competitive simply by force of will of his talent, but they would fall short of the playoffs. The Kyle Lowry and DeMarr DeRozan teams would follow; high on grit but not exceptional on talent. While the Raptors behind these two stars would battle tirelessly, they would remain limited in terms of their ceiling, so in 2018-19 the team made a surprising move, trading for transcendent yet temperamental superstar Kawai Leonard. The marriage would work out exactly perfectly, as Leonard would stay healthy and play at his absolute apex ability, winning the title in a one-and-done season along with Lowry. The Raptors finally had their title on the back of Leonard, who would equally use that season as his call to the rest of the league: “I am unequivocally a superstar and deserve to be treated and paid like one”. Leonard would move on after that season. Present-day, Scotty Barnes looks to be a future force in the league, a guy capable of both being great and making those around him also great. As Toronto moves into the second half of the 2020’s, they’ll hope Barnes can make that magical step that all The Greats make.
