Seattle Seahawks "Modern Iconography" Statistical Poster
Sports art doesn’t need to be in-your-face. It can be elegant, stylish, even thought-provoking. These large-scale modern-style prints can certainly fit in a garage or man cave, but they’re most at home in a dining or living room adorned by thoughtful interior design. Created using visual iconography and showcasing historical and statistical data (updated for the 2024 season), these posters tell an elaborate story of the legacy of the Seahawks in a design-forward manner and will undoubtedly enhance any space you choose to display it in.
Playing their first season in 1976, the Seattle Seahawks have lived a tale of two franchises over the course of their history. The first, from 1976-2000, is one of a rudderless team without an identity. The second, Beginning just after the turn of the century, is one of a defined culture, led by strong head coaches with identifiable approaches and ethos who have helped shape the team into what is undeniably one of the most recognizable in all of football. The real turning point for the Seattle franchise came with the hiring of legendary coach Mike Holmgren in 1999, after his run in Green Bay. Holmgren brought with him a desire to establish the run and use that to set up the pass, and once he paired up with Sean Alexander at the running back position and Tim Hasselback at the quarterback position, the Hawks were in business. Seattle would reach five straight playoffs from 2003-2007 (equalling the previous total from their first 25 seasons), and while they would reach (and lose) only one Super Bowl, Holmgren had built a real winner in a town where there previously wasn’t one. After one disastrous season of Jim Mora, Jr., the Seahawks brought in Pete Carroll, and the true ascension of Seahawks culture would begin. Using his fundamental belief in running, competition, and respect as a baseline for winning, Carroll built one of the true great winners in Seattle that we’ve seen in the modern game. Defensively, the team was led by Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, and an incredible secondary that was nicknamed the Legion of Boom for just how dynamic hitters they were. Russell Wilson led the team from the quarterback position, and to be totally frank the Seahawks were the best team in football for the better part of a decade, winning double digits eight out of nine years from 2012-20120 (they won nine games in 2017) — An absolutely amazing run. They would win a title in 2013, but should have won again in 2014, and possibly could have been in the mix for another one or two during that stretch. The Seahawks are one of the best examples of culture and identity running a team, and for the rest of their lives Seahawks fans will look back to the 2000-2020 era of Seahawks football as one of the greatest in history.
