Minnesota Golden Gophers Football "Modern Iconography" Statistical Poster

from $35.00

Sports art doesn’t need to be in-your-face. It can be elegant, stylish, even thought-provoking. These large-scale modern-style prints can certainly fit in a garage or man cave, but they’re most at home in a dining or living room adorned by thoughtful interior design. Created using visual iconography and showcasing historical and statistical data (updated for the 2024 season), these posters tell an elaborate story of the legacy of Minnesota football in a design-forward manner and will undoubtedly enhance any space you choose to display it in.

Playing in the Big Ten gauntlet has not proven to be great for Minnesota in recent history, but the modern era doesn’t teach younger generations about just how storied the Gophers past is. Beginning play all the way back in 1892, the Minnesota football team was one of the very first to ever establish footing on a national level. Led by Henry Williams at the turn of the 20th century, the Gophers would be one of the most dominant teams in a disorganized college football landscape — winning 10, 14, 13 and 10 games in the first decade of the 1900’s. The 1930’s would arrive, and the hiring of Bernie Bierman as the team’s Head Coach would usher in a new level of dominance for the program (and perhaps for all of college football), as Minnesota would go on to claim National Championships in 1934, 1935, 1936, 1940 and 1941. They would go 40-1 in those collective seasons, and would be able to state definitively that Minneapolis was where college football lived for about a decade. In 1960 the Golden Gophers would again capture a National Championship on the backs of an 8-2 season, and would follow that campaign up with another 8-2 season and a win in the famed Rose Bowl. As the program entered the 21st century, they would struggle to gain footing amid powerhouse programs in the Big Ten that they would live in, but in 2017 the team would hire Central Michigan superstar Head Coach P.J. Fleck, and the newest era of Minnesota football would begin. Fleck would build an 11-2 monster in his third year in the league, followed by back-to-back 9-4 seasons, but Gopher fans are hoping the best is yet to come as Fleck continues to row the boat.
