Michigan State Spartans Football "Modern Iconography" Statistical Poster

from $35.00

Sports art doesn’t need to be in-your-face. It can be elegant, stylish, even thought-provoking. These large-scale modern-style prints can certainly fit in a garage or man cave, but they’re most at home in a dining or living room adorned by thoughtful interior design. Created using visual iconography and showcasing historical and statistical data (updated for the 2024 season), these posters tell an elaborate story of the legacy of the Spartans in a design-forward manner and will undoubtedly enhance any space you choose to display it in.

Michigan State’s football history is one that is often misunderstood, or downright ignored, largely due to the program’s neighbor in Ann Arbor. Beginning play in earnest in the early 1900’s, the Spartans would pretty quickly build a standard for winning under great coaches as Charlie Bachman, Biggie Munn and Duffy Daugherty. Under Munn the team would rise up and win their first championship in 1952. Rose Bowl victories in both 1953 & 1955 would follow as Munn would transition to Daugherty, but the team would arrive on the national scene in a huge way when they would capture back to back National Championships in 1965 & 1966, losing only one game in two calendar years. The latter half of the 20th century would not bring much worth speaking about — MSU would largely be competitive but never great — But as the 2000’s appeared the team would reach another level of greatness they hadn’t achieved for almost a half a century. In 2007, the school would hire Mark Dantonio out of Cincinnati, and he would quickly carve out a place in a crowded Big Ten. Dantonio would coach Michigan State for thirteen seasons, only falling below .500 once in his tenure. The program would enjoy Bowl Games every single season but one, and would post double digit win totals in six seasons, as MSU Football would be in the hunt for BCS championships or CFP berths late into many seasons. In 2024 the team would move on from Dantonio’s successor Mel Tucker when they hired Jonathan Smith away from Oregon State. While Michigan State is commonly thought of as a ‘basketball school’ to some in the Big Ten, the program is certainly back on the right track, and looks primed to re-establish itself as one of the greatest in all of the country.
