Dallas Mavericks "Modern Iconography" Statistical Poster
Sports art doesn’t need to be in-your-face. It can be elegant, stylish, even thought-provoking. These large-scale modern-style prints can certainly fit in a garage or man cave, but they’re most at home in a dining or living room adorned by thoughtful interior design. Created using visual iconography and showcasing historical and statistical data (updated for the 2024 season), these posters tell an elaborate story of the legacy of the Mavs in a design-forward manner and will undoubtedly enhance any space you choose to display it in.
Beginning play in the 1980-81 season, the Dallas Mavericks franchise is a tale of two histories, almost. The first is of a brutal, down-trodden franchise that simply cannot get out of their own way. The second is of a team that seems to have hit on two generational, all-time talents, and is capable of competing almost every single year as one of the best run-organizations in the league. The Mavs of the early 1980’s would experience moderate success with players like Derek Harper and Sam Perkins, but ultimately would prove not capable of title runs. with the arrival of the 1990’s, the team would fall completely into the tank, going the entire decade without reaching a .500 record on any one season season. In 1998-99 however, the Mavs would select a project out of Germany named Dirk Nowitzki. Nowitzki would be a controversial pick, someone who many thought would not have the power or thickness as a big man to compete in the NBA. Over the course of 21 seasons (!!!), however, Dirk would become one of the small handful of greatest players to ever play the game, revolutionizing what we think about 7’0” players, how they play and how they can be effective. Nowitzki would begin his career missing out on the playoffs twice, but then would go on to pull the Mavs to the postseason in all but three, before finally retiring in 2018-19. After losing the NBA Finals in 2005-06 it seemed as though Dirk would go title-less, until the Mavericks would bubble up again in 2010-11, winning an underdog title to the powerhouse LeBron-led Miami Heatles. After his retiring, the Mavs would draft Luka Doncic in the 2019-20 Draft, instantly replenishing their generational talent void left by Dirk’s retirement. Luka is one of the greatest minds the game has ever seen, already, and with him running the offense the Mavericks look to be a danger in the playoffs every single season moving forward.
